To help raise funds, credit union employees instigated numerous activities including employee jeans weeks, food days, various raffles, T-shirts sales, and the placement of donation containers in all branches. The money donated was used for holiday gifts, rent, utility bills, and more.

“We are so thankful for our partnership with Allegiance Credit Union to provide support and resources to grandparents who are raising their grandchildren,” said Sarah Rahhal, LCSW, chief executive officer of Sunbeam. “In Oklahoma, 46,000 grandparents are raising their grandchildren—and that number is expected to rise. Thank you, Allegiance Credit Union, for helping build strong grandfamilies.”

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program supports Oklahomans who are raising their grandchildren without the presence of parents in the home. The majority of grandfamilies receive no support from the biological parents or the state.

This program is open to grandparents living in Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian, and Logan counties. For more information about Sunbeam’s Senior Services call 405-528-7721 or visit sunbeamfamilyservices.org/GRG.
