River City FCU partners with SA Youth to make financial futures brighter

Posted: Jul 17, 2019 | Author: River City FCU

It is no secret that the youth in the San Antonio community face many challenges. Through its partnership with SA Youth, River City Federal Credit Union hopes to alleviate some of those challenges by opening savings accounts for its youth.

Studies show that a child who has a savings account is three times as likely to attend college or other post-high school programs, and four times as likely to graduate. By encouraging savings at a young age, the credit union can help the family set up their children for a bright financial future.

River City FCU President/CEO Jeff Ivey said, “We’re thrilled to be in a partnership with SA Youth. This effort will enable us to help more families in our community to start saving for their children’s future and allow us to help these families save more of their hard-earned money."

River City FCU presented a sponsorship check to SA Youth that will cover the 2019 Family Engagement Nights at 10 sites all over the city. During these events, the River City FCU team will meet with the children of the SA Youth program and their parents. Part of the purpose of this initiative is to educate not only the children about money, how to save, and how to use money responsibly but also to educate their parents. River City FCU offers the children a way to jump start their saving by funding the first $5 into the account, as well as offering a higher interest rate on their youth accounts.

"SA Youth is honored to team up with River City Federal Credit Union for our family engagement nights,” CEO Asia Ciaravino said. "This relationship will provide the families we serve with financial literacy coaching that will help break the cycle of predatory cash loan services. We are excited to welcome River City Federal Credit Union to our family of partners."

This partnership will help change the financial futures of many of San Antonio’s youth by starting their savings journey at an earlier age and providing them with more financial education along the way. River City FCU believes in the work SA Youth does and is honored to be a part of it.
