Oklahoma's new governor supports ambitious agenda

Posted: Jan 16, 2019 | Author:

Monday night 2,000 Oklahomans celebrated their new governor, Kevin Stitt, at an inaugural ball in the Cox Convention Center. The state's 28th governor, a Tulsa Republican, takes office after winning the election by 12 percentage points in November.

Stitt said he knows he has the support to accomplish an ambitious agenda and hopes to create a legacy all his own over the next four years.

“I want to be the best governor possible. I want to be the best governor for all four million Oklahomans. I am focused on them," said Stitt. "I am not focused on insider groups and this 10,000 people that surround the Capitol. I am thinking about the people in Guymon, Jenks, or Owasso, or Idabel as I make decisions."

On his first day in office, the federal government is still partially shutdown. “Obviously, the federal government has to get its act together," Stitt said. "We have got to get that open, but I am focused on Oklahoma issues and making sure we start growing our economy.”

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt and Speaker of the House Charles McCall, as well as others in the legislature, attended the event.

From Oklahoma Credit Union Association, Executive Director Nate Webb attended, along with OCUPAC Board Member Lisa Adamik and Board Chair Leilani Harpole. While the ball was a celebration, attending social events like the governor's ball is an opportunity for local government relations experts to network and build relationships with lawmakers that could prove valuable to credit unions in the future.
