In Memoriam: Loretta Kasting

Cornerstone League expresses its condolences to the friends and family of retired credit union leader Loretta Kasting who passed away on Oct. 10. She was 90 years old.

Kasting served credit unions in Kansas for more than 27 years. She was previously the president/CEO of VA Hospital Federal Credit Union and Kansas Medical Credit Union (now Azura Credit Union) in Topeka.

She served as her chapter president and as a board member for the Kansas Credit Union League (which evolved into Heartland Credit Union Association and later merged with Cornerstone League). Kasting fondly remembered co-chairing the Kansas League’s Annual Meeting with her husband Bill Kasting, where they rode their motorcycles into the opening morning session.

Kasting inspired not only many staff members to advance in their credit union careers, but also her family. Her husband Bill worked for Kansas Super Chief Credit Union for 17 years before becoming the administrator of the Kansas Department of Credit Unions. Daughter Kim Anneler is today president/CEO of Ark Valley Credit Union and has more than 40 years in the industry. Daughter Shawn Blue worked in loans and collections, and son-in-law Rick Blue was president/CEO of White Eagle Credit Union for more than 30 years prior to his passing. 

In 1990, the Kansas Credit Union League bestowed with affection and fond memories their most prestigious Henry Peterson Professional of the Year award for the contributions Kasting made to the movement. She was referred to as fun loving and always game, providing stability, innovation, and frequent humor.
