Envista Credit Union hosts townhall with U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner

Last Thursday, more than 40 credit union leaders and staff from five credit unions in the Topeka area attended a townhall with U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner (R-District 2). The event was hosted by Envista Credit Union.

The first half hour was a meet-and-greet. LaTurner took his time meeting every person, giving them an opportunity to voice their concerns directly. He was interested in personal testimonies and encouraged questions.

During the second half, LaTurner talked about legislation in Congress that was expected to impact financial institutions.

“Credit unions are important in our state, and they are facing a lot of obstacles from the federal government with new regulations that are making it more onerous on them and in turn making it harder for Kansans to access capital,” said LaTurner.

Envista CEO Ron Smeltzer kicked off a Q&A session, then passed the microphone so audience members could raise questions. Credit unions in attendance:

Also in attendance was state Sen. Rick Kloos (R-District 19), Senate Majority Whip.

Kansas Credit Union Association Executive Director Michael Murray said, “Congressman LaTurner was generous with his time and indicated support for our key credit union priorities.”
