The Amarillo Area Chapter of Credit Unions held its annual golf tournament July 19 at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo and raised more than $48,667 for the Children’s Miracle Network and Credit Unions for Kids.
Chapter President Mary Martinez said the total proceeds came from the golf tournament and a sales campaign that engages credit union members in the participating credit unions.
“We have been doing the golf tournament and campaign since 2016, raising almost $300,000 for CMN since then,” said Martinez, who is marketing director for Santa Fe Federal Credit Union. “I am always amazed at the commitment from the credit unions in our chapter working together to put on a successful golf tournament and campaign.”
The campaign included the sale of $1 paper balloons, which were hung on the wall at the credit union with the purchasing member’s name on it. Members could also sponsor a $10 Pauly Bear for a child in the hospital, which would be given to the child with a note from that member. Raffle tickets were also sold (one for $5 and five for $20), and the first-place raffle winner received $750 in cash. Second-place winner received $250.
“Children’s Miracle Network is an organization near and dear to our hearts, and we are proud to be able to help local kids and their families with this money,” said Martinez. “I want to give a big thank you to my fellow AACCU board members, our sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who played in the tournament!”
