TrueSky's Sean Cahill appointed to chair CFPB council

Sean CahillConsumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Kathleen Kraninger has announced the appointment of members to the CFPB's Credit Union Advisory Council, as well as the Consumer Advisory Board, Community Bank Advisory Council, and Academic Research Council. These experts advise CFPB leadership on a broad range of consumer financial issues and emerging market trends.

Sean Cahill, president/CEO of TrueSky Credit Union in Oklahoma City, has been reappointed to the eight-member Credit Union Advisory Council, this time as chairman.

“I am honored and humbled to be reappointed to the Advisory Council, and even more so to be asked to serve as the chair," said Cahill. "It is exciting to see the diverse group of men and women from around the country joining the CUAC this year, and I am looking forward to our working together to provide feedback to the Bureau on a variety of topics. Each member is a champion for the credit union movement and committed to representing our industry well by advising the CFPB about how specific rulemaking impacts our financial institutions, our members, and our communities. I am thankful to Director Kraninger for taking steps to expand the role of the CUAC and being so open to our perspective. It is going to be a productive year.”

The CFPB announced changes to the CUAC’s charter and extended members' terms in March, a decision that came after multiple meetings between CUNA, Leagues, and credit unions with CFPB staff urging the bureau to preserve the CUAC and extend members’ terms in order to provide stability.

“The Bureau is able to protect consumers in the financial marketplace better when it receives input from a wide range of experts and stakeholders,” said Kraninger. “With the enhancements we made earlier this year to the structure of the advisory committee program, I am confident that these groups will be able to hit the ground running in their efforts to provide meaningful feedback on Bureau policy and regulations. I look forward to working with them.”
