The Cornerstone League presents Bankruptcy and Collections seminars for Texas credit unions as two virtual series. Tom Sharp and Sharon Sjostrom, practicing attorneys with advanced knowledge of bankruptcy cases, present the Bankruptcy series. For collections, credit union attorneys Mike Blalack and Rob Woodcock offer a unique perspective on repossession issues.

Here’s what the Bankruptcy series covers
The bankruptcy series begins with information to help you better understand bankruptcy and then progresses to a detailed examination of specific, common scenarios for credit unions in Chapters 7 and 13. Topics include:

• Successful handling of Texas Chapter 13 member bankruptcies
• Critical proof of claim procedures, forms, redaction, and more
• Reaffirmation advice, such as forms completion and negotiation with debtor and debtors’ counsel
• Key collateral recovery methods, such as dealing with the automatic stay in bankruptcy

Collections: A snapshot of what you’ll learn
During this series, you will learn how to identify and spot any operational errors and correct them with proper procedures and forms. More specifically, you’ll learn about:

• What it takes to be in full compliance, including required letters, notices, and forms
• What not to do, what to do, and how to do it
• Legal issues impacting delinquent vehicle loans, repossessions, and collateral dispositions
