With heavy hearts, we share that Missouri Credit Union Association Executive Director Ian Dunlap passed away, a heartbreaking situation for all who knew and cared for him. We want to honor and highlight his incredible contributions to Cornerstone League and our industry as we hold space for him, his family, and his colleagues.
Born and raised in northeast Missouri, Ian grew up on his family farm near Perry. Hunting and fishing played a major part in his childhood. He attended Northwest Missouri State University, earning a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor
in history, and later a master's degree from the University of Missouri's Truman School of Public Affairs.
After graduating from college, Ian immediately immersed himself in the political world. He was the chief of staff for
former Missouri Sen. Wes Shoemyer (2007–2010) and the deputy director of scheduling for former Gov. Jay Nixon (2011–2013). He later served as the liaison for the governor's office and the general assembly in his role as the director of
legislative and constituent services for the Department of Corrections. In 2015, he transferred to the Department of Public Safety as its legislative director.
Ian joined the Heartland Credit Union Association in December 2017 and most
recently served as executive director of the Missouri Credit Union Association, after HCUA’s merger with Cornerstone League. Since then, we have had the honor of watching Ian shine as he’s worked ardently in advocating for Missouri credit
unions (see an overview of his work during the 2023 Legislative Session).
Rick Nichols, president and CEO of River Region
Credit Union, created a family fund in Ian’s name for those who wish to offer condolences and support for his bereaved family (his wife, Leslie, and children Lanie and Liam). Checks may be payable to Ian Dunlap Family Fund. Contributions
can be mailed to:

Amid the challenges of the current situation and the grief and uncertainty, we offer some comfort through our promise to honor Ian and his legacy. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or thoughts or to share memories of this beloved member of the credit union community.
