Mindset is one of the few things we can fully control—and it plays a powerful role in how we navigate our workdays. A new year often brings fresh goals, expectations, and opportunities, along with moments of change or uncertainty. Maintaining a positive mindset during these periods helps build confidence, sustain motivation, and keep challenges in perspective.

A quote displayed at our credit union offers a simple but effective reminder: “Two things you are in total control of: your attitude and your effort.” Chosen by our President/CEO Gerardo Paz, it reinforces the idea that while we can’t control every outcome, we can always control how we show up.

A positive outlook influences more than individual performance—it shapes productivity, collaboration, and workplace culture. When optimism guides our approach, growth feels achievable and support becomes part of the everyday experience.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, consider leading with intention and positivity. Take time to recognize a colleague’s efforts, offer encouragement during uncertain moments, and choose a mindset that lifts both yourself and those around you. When positivity is practiced consistently, it strengthens teams, reinforces culture, and supports the cooperative spirit that defines the credit union movement.
