YP Spotlights for September

Thu September 25, 2025

The Leaguer regularly features Young Professional Spotlights to help you get to know these up-and-comers. This month, meet Lauren McKay, Jessica Marin, and Steffany Rodriguez.

Lauren McKay, UP Arkansas Federal Credit Union

Lauren McKay, back office specialist at UP Arkansas Federal Credit Union, has been in the credit union industry for three years. A career pivot from healthcare led her to what she calls a fortunate match—“UP found me,” she said, adding that she “took a chance on a new path” drawn by a love of math and problem-solving.

McKay is most proud of mastering a complex role that had stumped others, noting the work “makes me feel important within my credit union.” A certified financial counselor, she collaborates closely with teammates to ensure members get the full value of credit union service and stays curious about how technology can elevate the member experience. Her advice to other YPs: it may be intimidating at first, but “have faith and be resourceful.”

  Jessica Marin

Jessica Marin, South Texas Federal Credit Union

Seven years into her credit union career, lending manager Jessica Marin says the mission keeps her grounded—especially serving underserved communities. She points to last year’s response after Hurricane Beryl as proof that “even though we’re separate organizations, we unite to help each other during challenging times.”

Marin’s path from teller to lending manager was built “step by step” through persistence and mentorship, including strong support from her CEO, Gerardo Paz. Beyond the branch, she serves as a United Way of South Texas Loan Executive, graduated from Leadership Mid-Valley (later joining its committees), and now gives back as a Cornerstone Young Professional Advisor.

Innovation is part of her story, too: inspired by a YP conference, she and colleague Steph Garces proposed and launched the Rising Star Club youth accounts with leadership’s support—opening many new accounts since June and helping kids build healthy money habits. Outside work, she’s learning the art of baking. Her advice: “Reach beyond your comfort zone, volunteer, and keep learning.”

  Steffany Rodriguez

Steffany Rodriguez, Raiz Federal Credit Union

For community impact manager Steffany Rodriguez, 12 years in the industry have reinforced a simple belief: “People helping people isn’t just a slogan—it’s the core value guiding our work to improve financial well-being.”

Selected as a Cornerstone Young Professional Advisor for the El Paso area, she calls the role a point of pride. Rodriguez also chairs the El Paso YP board, which brings together representatives from every local credit union to deliver resources and meaningful volunteer events across the region. To peers coming up behind her, she offers straight talk: “Step out of your comfort zone. Speak up, ask questions, stay informed, and challenge yourself.”

These young professionals are making a difference in their credit unions and communities. Stay tuned for more YP Spotlights next month.
