Sister Societies

Sister Societies are local Global Women Leadership Network chapters (part of the World Council of Credit Unions) established around the world to further the Network’s global mission of making a local impact. Chapter members do this by convening credit union leaders (men and women), discussing credit union issues, exchanging ideas, networking with neighboring credit union leaders, and sharing lessons learned. Sister Societies also provide an opportunity to talk through important issues impacting women leaders in credit unions.

The Sister Society initiative within the Cornerstone region is part of the League’s International Relationship Committee.

Last week, local credit union leaders in Houston held a special luncheon to relaunch the Houston Sister Society. The event included guest speakers on a hot topic familiar to all workers, a networking game, and door prizes.

Networking Bingo kicked off the event, followed by a catered lunch from Chicken Salad Chick, and an overview of the World Council of Credit Unions, the Global Women’s Leadership Network, and Sister Society. Afterward, TDECU Change Leaders treated attendees with an inspiring presentation on “Conquering Imposter Syndrome.”

TDECU Co-chair Laura Whitley reported “tons of positive feedback” and that “the energy in the room was off the charts.” More than 60 credit union women and men attended.

“Oh my goodness, there really are not words to express the level of joy today’s luncheon brought me,” said TDECU Co-chair Laura Whitley. “You are each so dynamic, resourceful, and positive. I am thankful for the privilege to get to know you. Congratulations on a successful relaunch of HTX Sister Society!”
