Sister Societies
Sister Societies are local Global Women Leadership Network chapters (part of the World Council of Credit Unions) established around the world to further the Network’s global mission of making a local impact. Chapter members do this by convening credit union leaders (men and women), discussing credit union issues, exchanging ideas, networking with neighboring credit union leaders, and sharing lessons learned. Sister Societies also provide an opportunity to talk through important issues impacting women leaders in credit unions.
The Sister Society initiative within the Cornerstone region is part of the League’s International Relationship Committee.
Upcoming Meetings
Sister Society chapters hold networking and educational events throughout the year. Keep checking back for more events.

Read time: 32 secs

The Greater Oklahoma Chapter of Credit Unions met last Thursday at the Credit Union House in Oklahoma City. Attendees received an economic update from guest speaker Dr. Russel Evans.
Evans is a highly regarded economic communicator who was previously a professor of economics at Oklahoma City University, executive director of the Economic Research and Policy Institute, and interim dean of the Meinders School of Business. He is passionate about the discipline and fascinated by the behaviors of people engaged in the ordinary business of life. Evans helps audiences connect the dots between classroom economic theory, daily behavior, and future economic and financial conditions.
During the chapter meeting, Evans covered Oklahoma-specific data relating to inflation, wage growth, household income, unemployment, etc., to help credit unions better understand where their members are, financially speaking.
Houston Chapter Raises $$ with Annual Golf Tournament
Read time: 57 secs

The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions, in partnership with CU Alliance, hosted its annual golf tournament and raised an all–time record of $56,405 for children’s charities and scholarship funds.
Credit union leaders and vendors from all over Texas joined together on April 24 at the Wildcat Golf Club for a day of fun, competition, and fundraising. The tournament was pivotal in gaining awareness for local Houston charities and CU Alliance’s charity, the CUSO’s Dream Educational Foundation.
The 2024 tournament had an excellent turnout with 124 golfers, showing their golf skills and making an impact within the Houston community. For the last five years, CU Alliance has partnered with the Houston Chapter to organize the golf tournament. The event exceeded expectations, bringing together participants, sponsors, and donors, and would not have been possible without CU Alliance’s dedication and hard work.

"The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions commends CU Alliance and its staff for their unwavering support and pivotal role in orchestrating this successful fundraising endeavor,” said Claudia Maldonado, SVP of branch operations for AMOCO Federal Credit Union and chairman of the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions. “Their dedication to the ethos of giving back has been instrumental in the resounding success of the tournament.”
Houston Chapter of Credit Unions is always looking for sponsors and donors for its events throughout the year. Visit www.houstonchapter.com for more information on how you can be a sponsor and help local charities.

The Oklahoma Sister Society is hosting a luncheon featuring credit union employees who started on the front lines of service and have been promoted to vice-president levels or higher. In their presentation, “Climbing the Corporate Ladder: Insights from Top-Level Leadership, four accomplished panelists will explain why leadership isn’t just about titles; it’s about influence, impact, and continuous growth.
While embarking on a career journey often involves setting one’s sights on climbing the corporate ladder, the ascent from entry-level to leadership requires dedication, goal setting, clear communication of ambitions, networking, continuous learning, and effective self-promotion. Whether your job title officially designates you as a leader, it’s essential to act like one.
