Sister Societies

Sister Societies are local Global Women Leadership Network chapters (part of the World Council of Credit Unions) established around the world to further the Network’s global mission of making a local impact. Chapter members do this by convening credit union leaders (men and women), discussing credit union issues, exchanging ideas, networking with neighboring credit union leaders, and sharing lessons learned. Sister Societies also provide an opportunity to talk through important issues impacting women leaders in credit unions.

The Sister Society initiative within the Cornerstone region is part of the League’s International Relationship Committee.

Upcoming Meetings

February: Investing in your most important relationship

Jill NowackiDate: Wednesday, Feb. 10
Time: 2:30–3:30 p.m. CT
Location: Zoom

Valentine’s Day causes us to give a lot of attention to relationships. With this special day right around the corner, let’s make time to think about our most important relationship—the one we have with ourselves. Over the past year, the pressure has been high with caregivers having more demands; managers working to help employees navigate uncertainty in the workplace; parents becoming teachers; and credit union employees serving as essential workers. Every relationship has demanded more and, through it all, we worked to build inclusion in an often-polarizing environment.

Join President/CEO of Humanidei + O’Rourke Jill Nowacki as she discusses how to stay true to yourself with a life aligned with your values in a time where you may feel like your own last priority. You will leave the session energized and better connected to yourself and your sisters.

March: Don’t miss the chance to engage with this exemplary leader

Tonita WebbDate: Wednesday, March 17
Time: 2:30–3:30 p.m. CT
Location: Zoom
As the chief operating officer of Seattle Credit Union, which has $934 million in assets, Tonita Webb oversees most of the organization’s day-to-day operations. Even beyond the credit union mechanics, Webb leads the organization’s corporate culture to provide a path for personal prosperity for its members, communities, and employees.

Webb, an Air Force veteran, an MBA, and a mother of four, leads by example and gives herself freely to her community work. She currently serves on boards for nonprofits like Southeast Effective Development and social enterprises like Pioneer Human Services. She is a champion of diversity and inclusion and is a frequent speaker on the subject.

As important as her credentials are, the empathy and compassion Webb learned by being raised by a single mother in low-income housing projects in Virginia are perhaps her greatest attributes. Her mother’s work ethic has inspired her to lead, whether serving her country, her employers, or her customers.
