Wonderful things are happening with credit unions and credit union leaders in the Cornerstone region, from education to advocacy and promotions. Check out the great articles in this week’s Leaguer.

Southwest CUNA Management School celebrated its 2020 graduates in a unique commencement ceremony that was conducted in-person and virtually. The graduation had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic, but that didn’t change the commitment of these credit union leaders to complete their coursework.

I’m happy to welcome AMOCO Federal Credit Union CEO Shawn Bailey to the Cornerstone League board of directors. Bailey fills the vacancy created when our good friend Mike Kloiber resigned pending his retirement in August.

Are you a member of the Cornerstone Councils Program? The opportunities are limited only by your participation level, because when you’re a member of a council, you open the door to educational growth, networking, relationship building, and much more.

The Southwest CUNA Management School Alumni Association has elected some new board members. The four new members are all from the Class of 2020.

Jim Nussle told the Senate Banking Committee that banks’ new attempts to place restrictions on other banks whose ownership decides to sell their operations to credit unions would interfere with the banks’ fiduciary duty to shareholders.

NCUA Chairman Todd Harper testified before the Senate Banking Committee and made legislative requests that included giving the NCUA enforcement authority over third-party vendors. Read more about Harper’s four priorities.

In regional news, Resource One Credit Union received a CDFI grant to support their community projects; FivePoint Credit Union announced the promotion of a new branch manager; and Houston Federal Credit Union held a grand opening for its new branch.
