Resource One Credit Union received a Community Development Financial Institutions grant to fund projects designed to support the credit union’s surrounding communities. The credit union serves 60,000 members in Dallas and Northwest Harris counties.
Resource One was one of only 11 credit unions in Texas to receive the grant and one of 244 credit unions nationwide. Credit unions combined received $401.8 million in grant awards out of the $1.25 billion distributed.
The CDFI Fund was created as part of the U.S. Department of Treasury to promote economic and community development. As a result, investments into credit unions such as Resource One make it possible for America’s underserved and distressed communities to access affordable loans, credit opportunities, and financial products and services they otherwise would not be eligible to receive.
Resource One plans to deploy the funds back into the communities through initiatives and projects such as Hispanic outreach, low-income community support, and financial education. These initiatives include projects that have already been implemented and upcoming projects planned to release throughout 2021.
