John Crews Tapped for NCUA Board Role
Thu May 14, 2026
John Crews has been nominated to serve on the National Credit Union Administration Board, marking an important development for the credit union industry and the future of financial services regulation. If confirmed by the Senate, Crews would succeed current Chairman Kyle Hauptman, whose six-year term expired in August 2025.
Crews brings extensive experience in financial policy and regulatory affairs, having served in senior roles at the Treasury Department, on Capitol Hill, and in the White House. His background in legislative, regulatory, and economic policy issues positions him to navigate many of the complex challenges facing credit unions and the broader financial services industry.
“Crews understands the important role mission-driven lenders like credit unions play in helping families and small businesses get ahead,” said Scott Simpson, president/CEO of America’s Credit Unions. Simpson added that Crews’ experience reflects “a thoughtful approach to innovation, safety, and expanding access to affordable financial services.”
Strong leadership at the NCUA remains especially important as credit unions continue adapting to evolving regulatory expectations, emerging technologies, cybersecurity concerns, and increased competition across the financial marketplace. Industry leaders continue emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced regulatory environment that protects consumers, while preserving credit unions’ ability to serve members, expand access to affordable financial services, and support financial well-being in communities across the country.
Cornerstone League congratulates Crews on his nomination and expresses its commitment to continued collaboration with policymakers and regulators to strengthen the credit union movement and advance opportunities for credit unions, their members, and the communities they serve.
