Tinker FCU and Communication FCU Mobilize Relief Efforts Following Enid Tornado

Wed April 29, 2026

In the wake of the EF4 tornado that struck Vance Air Force Base and the Enid area on April 23, Tinker Federal Credit Union and Communication Federal Credit Union responded with immediate relief for members and direct support for the broader community.

Tinker Federal Credit Union activated a disaster relief program for impacted members, including 0% APR loans of up to $4,000 for qualifying borrowers, along with other relief options to help cover urgent expenses such as insurance deductibles, essential repairs, and emergency needs. TFCU’s financial wellness team also began outbound wellness checks and offered on-site financial coaching to help members assess immediate needs, connect with available resources, and navigate the financial uncertainty that often follows a disaster.

That support quickly proved meaningful. According to TFCU’s Enid branch team, several affected members stopped by to replace debit cards, stop payments on checks, and get guidance on what to do next. Employees helped members think through practical recovery steps, including organizing documents and identifying the assistance that would be most helpful.

Communication Federal Credit Union also moved quickly to assist members. The credit union offered support through instant-issue debit cards, help adding accounts to mobile wallets, and temporary change-of-address requests. CFCU also contributed a $5,000 donation to United Way of Enid as part of the community response.

Beyond member relief, TFCU donated $10,000 to United Way of Northwest Oklahoma, delivered roughly $4,000 in cleanup and relief supplies, and mobilized resources to the Chisholm Trail Expo Center, where disaster response efforts were being coordinated. TFCU teams also provided food, water, and Gatorade to local first responders, distributed donated items and promotional care supplies, and organized an on-us event at Coffee Inclination on April 27, covering the first 100 drinks for community members.

The response reflected the cooperative spirit that defines credit unions. While senior leaders were out of town, teams at both institutions quickly stepped in to coordinate donations, outreach, supply runs, branch support, and member assistance. Staff also balanced tornado relief efforts with ongoing participation in broader Oklahoma credit union community initiatives, underscoring the depth of collaboration across the movement.

TFCU’s Enid branch and CFCU’s Enid branch remained open and operating, while TFCU’s Vance Air Force Base branch was temporarily closed as access to the installation was evaluated and inspections could be completed safely.

By combining financial relief, practical guidance, donations, and hands-on community support, TFCU and CFCU demonstrated the people-helping-people philosophy when it mattered most. To find out more and support relief efforts, access the links below.
