In This Week’s Leaguer

Wed June 02, 2021

In this week’s Leaguer, we’re coming off a long Memorial Day weekend where we honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation during wartime. As we head into the summer months with more people vaccinated, we’re optimistic about life returning to a more “normal” cadence as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations decrease.

To accommodate more credit union leaders, completion of the 2021 Compensation Survey deadline has been extended to June 7. This is an important project that will benefit all credit unions in the region, so if you have not yet completed the survey, we encourage you to take a few minutes now.

The second quarter edition of Perspectives is online now. Perspectives is Cornerstone’s signature industry publication where you can find expertise on the hottest topics of the day. If your credit union is on track to implement DEI strategies for your employees and members, this is a great issue to get you started.

NCUA has issued a regulatory alert regarding the CFPB’s interpretive rule clarifying that the prohibition against sex discrimination in the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, as implemented by Regulation B. Remember that our Information Central hotline can answer any questions you have on this important rule.

Cornerstone offers congratulations to our good friends at CO-OP Financial Services, which has elected a new board chair. Benson Porter, president/CEO of BECU in Tukwila, Wash., was elected during their recent board meeting, along with two other directors.

In regional news, more evidence of Americans returning to in-person events and credit unions doing what they do best: people helping people. Houston Chapter of Credit Unions resumed its annual golf tournament in May and raised $57,000 for children’s charities fund. Oklahoma City-based Tinker FCU proves the value of longevity and expertise. Tinker has named 40-year industry veteran Connie Wall as executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

Finally, we offer condolences to the friends and family of Amanda Heathcott, retired president of Kro-Dal Credit Union, which is now Southwest Financial FCU in Arlington.

Thank you for reading and for your membership. We are here to serve and appreciate your feedback. Have a productive week.

Sincerely,

Caroline Willard
