RBFCU Helps Fight Summer Hunger
When school cafeterias close for the summer, many families lose a dependable source of meals while facing higher childcare and energy costs. RBFCU is helping address that gap through a Summer Food Drive benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank.
Meeting a Growing Community Need
The Central Texas Food Bank works with more than 250 partner agencies and more than 80 community sites to serve families across the region. This summer, its meal program is expected to provide approximately 240,000 meals to children. With demand for food assistance continuing to rise, the campaign gives members and community residents a practical way to support their neighbors.
Multiplying Every Donation
Through July 24, members and nonmembers can donate food at any of RBFCU’s 64 Texas branches. For every pound collected, RBFCU will contribute $4, giving regional food banks additional purchasing power to provide nutritious meals to children and families experiencing food insecurity.
“We have a ‘people helping people’ philosophy,” said RBFCU’s Victoria Young. “We’re just hoping to spread some food, joy and nourishment to the communities we serve.”
The effort demonstrates how a credit union can use its branch network, community relationships, and financial resources to multiply individual acts of generosity. Each donated item becomes part of a broader response to a seasonal challenge that can place additional strain on household budgets.
“RBFCU’s campaign reflects the credit union difference in a meaningful and tangible way,” said Cornerstone League President/CEO Caroline Willard. “By combining the generosity of its members and communities with its own financial commitment, RBFCU is helping ensure more Central Texas families have access to the food they need.”
Credit unions are encouraged to share their community-impact stories with media@cornerstoneleague.coop. Telling those stories demonstrates the credit union difference to members, lawmakers, and communities while inspiring similar efforts across the Cornerstone region.
