League System Launches Elder Exploitation Prevention Toolkit

Thu April 30, 2026

The League System has launched a new Elder Exploitation Prevention Toolkit to help credit unions strengthen efforts to identify, prevent, and respond to financial fraud targeting older adults.

The toolkit is the second in a series of five complimentary, member-focused toolkits that will be made available to credit unions throughout 2026. Each toolkit is designed to be fully customizable, making it easier for credit unions of all sizes to tailor materials for member communications, staff training, and community outreach.

Fraud targeting older adults continues to rise, placing vulnerable individuals at greater financial risk. Because credit unions are often the first line of defense in identifying suspicious activity and protecting members, the toolkit was created to provide practical, ready-to-use resources that support that role.

“The strength of the League System is a direct result of our intentional collaboration,” said Brad Miller, president of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues. “By cooperating to underwrite the cost of these resources, Leagues are able to offer the toolkits to credit unions free of charge. Leagues know combatting financial elder abuse is a huge priority for credit unions, and we hope these resources will make it easy for credit unions of any size to educate members, equip staff, and inform their community.”

The Elder Exploitation Prevention Toolkit includes member-facing educational content, social media and outreach materials, staff guides, checklists, conversation starters, and other practical tools to support frontline teams.

Credit unions are encouraged to use the toolkit during June’s Elder Abuse Awareness Month or at any point throughout the year that aligns with their outreach efforts.

Through its partnership with the American Association of Credit Union Leagues, the League System is using this toolkit series to strengthen the movement’s collective ability to address critical member needs, beginning with protecting older adults from financial exploitation.
