The credit union movement lost a true champion this week with the passing of Angela McCathran, retired CEO of the former Houston Credit Union, now People’s Trust Federal Credit Union.
“Angela’s impact on our industry was immeasurable, and her passion for the credit union philosophy was inspiring and transformative,” said Cornerstone League President/CEO Caroline Willard, who counted Angela and her husband, Steve, her friends. “Angela had a way of making every conversation meaningful, whether it was about leadership, advocacy, or the countless ways we could strengthen the movement we both cherished.”

Willard went on to say:
Angela was a principled and compassionate leader, wholly dedicated to advancing credit unions and the people they serve. Her belief in the mission of credit unions was unwavering, and she worked tirelessly to uphold its values, ensuring that members and professionals alike understood the profound impact of cooperative finance. Her tenure as chairman of both the National Credit Union Foundation and the Cornerstone Foundation reflected her deep commitment to making a difference.
Angela’s impact extended far beyond the boardroom. She had a rare ability to uplift those around her, to empower individuals to be their best, and to lead with both strength and grace. Her wisdom, guidance, and friendship will be profoundly missed, but her legacy will endure through the lives she touched.

Angela’s dedication to the credit union movement was unparalleled, and while we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived and the profound difference she made. Her passion and leadership will continue to inspire us all.
