Young Professionals from across the Cornerstone region gathered Sept. 24 for the YP Virtual Meetup: Get Out the Vote: Cutting Through the Noise, an interactive discussion on civic engagement, informed voting, and advocacy led by Cornerstone League SVP Advocacy Mark Seale.

Preparing Before Election Day

Seale encouraged attendees to become informed voters by researching candidates and ballot initiatives before Election Day rather than waiting until they reach the polls.

Participants shared strategies including reviewing sample ballots, researching candidates’ records, and using local voter resources to better understand the issues appearing on their ballots. The discussion emphasized looking beyond campaign messaging and considering candidates’ actions and documented positions on issues important to individual voters.

Connecting Civic Engagement and Advocacy

The conversation also explored credit union advocacy and how legislative and regulatory decisions can affect credit unions and their members. Seale discussed the importance of understanding policy issues and staying engaged throughout the year.

Attendees also discussed advocacy resources, voter education tools, and action alerts that can help credit union professionals follow issues affecting the movement.

Continuing the Conversation

Throughout the meetup, Young Professionals exchanged practical tips and personal experiences for preparing to vote, reinforcing the value of learning from peers and participating in civic conversations.

Thank you to Seale and everyone who participated. We look forward to continuing the conversation at future Young Professionals Virtual Meetups.
