Driving Hope for Kansas Families

Wed July 01, 2026

Credit Union of America’s annual golf tournament reached a special milestone this year, raising more than $50,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) at Ascension Via Christi while honoring the legacy of the man who started it all.

This year’s event marked the inaugural Bob Thurman Memorial Golf Classic, recognizing the former Credit Union of America CEO whose vision established the tournament two decades ago. Over the past 20 years, the event has generated more than $926,000 to support children and families throughout Kansas.

Many across the Cornerstone region may remember Thurman for his lasting impact on the credit union movement. In 2018, he was inducted into the Heartland Credit Union Association Hall of Fame, a well-deserved honor presented before HCUA merged with Cornerstone.

The tournament also featured a moving reminder of why this work matters. Attendees heard from Chip, whose family received hearing aids through CMN Hospitals at Ascension Via Christi, bringing the day's fundraising efforts to life through his family's story.

“Congratulations to Credit Union of America and everyone who helped make this year's tournament such a meaningful success,” said Caroline Willard, Cornerstone League president/CEO. “It's another powerful example of how credit unions continue to strengthen the communities they serve.”
