RRCU Give Back Game Supports Texarkana Nonprofits

Thu June 11, 2026

Red River Credit Union recently turned a new community event into meaningful local impact through its first Give Back Game in Texarkana, combining family-friendly fun with direct support for area nonprofits.

Hosted by RRCU Gives, the event brought together community members, local organizations, and supporters for a Saturday basketball matchup that also served a larger purpose: investing in the community. During the event, Red River awarded a combined $40,000 to local nonprofits, including Opportunities, Inc., CASA, and We Are Washington.

That kind of visible, local support matters. It shows how credit unions can do more than provide financial services. They can also create spaces that connect people, spotlight community needs, and direct resources toward organizations already doing important work on the ground.

RRCU Community and Foundation Manager Madeline Haak said the event was meant to send a clear message to the community.

“We wanted to announce to the community that we are here, we see those in need, and we are ready to help,” Haak said. “I think we did just that, and awarding the nonprofits at the event was an honor and a privilege.”

She added that the selected organizations are well-positioned to steward the funds in ways that will impact lives across the community.

The event itself featured a basketball game between the White Team and Teal Team, with the Teal Team winning 51-49 on a last-second shot. Families also enjoyed children’s activities, a silent auction, and appearances from community supporters, including former NBA player Ronnie Brewer.

The effort also highlights another layer of credit union collaboration. RRCU Gives Foundation is a donor-advised fund managed by the Cornerstone Foundation, giving Red River an additional way to channel support into the community through a structured philanthropic vehicle.

For credit unions, that is part of the broader story. When institutions pair community partnerships with intentional giving, they strengthen not only local nonprofits, but also the trust and connection that help communities thrive.
