In Memoriam: Karen Baker

Cornerstone League is saddened to announce the passing of Karen Baker, compliance specialist.
Baker joined Cornerstone through the merger with Heartland Credit Union Association and brought with her decades of experience and dedication to the credit union movement. Known for her detailed, proactive approach to compliance, she was a trusted resource for members.
“Karen always went the extra mile. She didn’t just answer our questions—she anticipated our needs and gave us the confidence to move forward,” one credit union leader shared.
“Karen was knowledgeable and had an excellent work ethic, evidenced by the many positive comments our team received from members she assisted,” said Suzanne Yashewski, Cornerstone League regulatory compliance counsel.
Baker leaves behind a legacy of service and professionalism. Our thoughts are with her family, colleagues, and the many credit union professionals who benefited from her expertise.
A memorial visitation will be held at Gateway Christian Church on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 2:30 p.m., with a service to begin at 3:00 p.m. Baker asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Foundation for Women's Cancer.
