Making our mark through service, education, and recognition

In this week’s issue of the Leaguer, we cover news and events on topics that reinforce our shared commitment to supporting our credit unions and their communities. In true “people helping people” fashion, the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions has recently donated $5,000 to Kids’ Meals of Houston, a charitable program that feeds children under age 6 who don’t have access to school-based free meal programs. During the recent winter storms, the Houston location lost power for days, which depleted its food inventory. Read about how the Houston Chapter stepped in when children needed its help more than ever.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recently issued an alert and emergency directive regarding Microsoft Vulnerabilities. Cornerstone League strongly recommends that members sign up for alerts from CISA’s “National Cyber Awareness System” to stay tuned in to cybersecurity developments.
For 20 years, the Cornerstone Foundation has been a proud sponsor of the National Endowment for Financial Education’s (NEFE) High School Financial Planning Program. In fact, the Foundation had made the high school program one of its signature Foundation programs. Now that NEFE has decided to end the program, we go into what’s next and how else Cornerstone Foundation will continue to support financial education in schools.
We’re thrilled to announce that Cornerstone Foundation recently launched an initiative to attract Financial Capability Service Providers (FCSPs). Modeling Cornerstone Resources’ vetting system, the Preferred Financial Capability Service Provider initiative will help streamline the selection process and enable credit unions to give back to Cornerstone Foundation through the partnership’s referral agreement. Organizations that enter into such agreements with Cornerstone Foundation will be considered and promoted as a Cornerstone Foundation Preferred Financial Capability Service Provider.
As we gear up for this year’s IMPACT Virtual conference (previously known as Annual Meeting), we look forward to hearing from industry leaders who will impart their valuable knowledge. This week, we focus on the Volunteer Forum sessions, targeted toward credit union leaders who aspire to grow their skill sets.
The Cornerstone League and CUNA are now accepting entries for Community Service Awards: Desjardins Youth and Adult Financial Education Award, Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award, and Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award. Submit your nomination before Wednesday, June 30. Read more about these prestigious awards and much more in this week’s Leaguer.
