Mainstreet Credit Union’s Marlee Haig Honored as Young Professional of the Year

Thu April 23, 2026

Marlee Haig, vice president of retail products and services at Mainstreet Credit Union, was recognized for her people-first leadership and strong commitment to helping members build financial confidence.

Haig stepped into her vice president role in early 2025 and quickly demonstrated a proactive, people‑centered approach to leadership. She partnered closely with other departments to modernize systems, streamline processes, and eliminate operational friction.

Her efforts enhanced efficiency while allowing Mainstreet CU employees to focus on building meaningful member relationships.

This approach to leadership resonated across the organization.

“Rather than focusing solely on outcomes, Marlee consistently considers how decisions affect employees, members, and the organization’s future readiness,” wrote Melissa Hendrix, chief human resource officer at Mainstreet Credit Union, in Haig’s letter of support. “This balanced approach has strengthened both performance and engagement across the teams she influences.”

Expanding Member Impact

One of Haig’s most noted accomplishments was spearheading Mainstreet’s certified financial counseling initiative. Recognizing a growing member need and an opportunity for staff development, Haig researched best practices, collaborated with human resources leadership, and guided a group through America’s Credit Unions’ Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP).

Haig said the goal was to expand the credit union’s impact beyond major life purchases and into day-to-day financial wellbeing.

“We really wanted to help our members on a broader scope to include not just the big purchases in their lives but common every day financial budgeting tools, and credit building paths,” she said.

Her efforts resulted in a 100% success rate as 15 employees earned their FiCEP certification.

“The program has elevated the confidence and professional growth of those involved, while enabling our credit union to provide deeper, more personalized support to members,” noted Hendrix. “This initiative stands as a clear example of how Marlee connects talent development directly to organizational purpose.

A Trusted Mentor

Throughout the past year, Haig mentored more than 10 employees, supporting professional growth, skill development, and preparation for advancement. Her mentorship directly contributed to multiple team members earning promotions into higher-level roles, reinforcing a culture of growth and opportunity.

She views mentorship as one of the most meaningful parts of her role.

“I would say this is my biggest passion,” she said. “Mentoring others to grow, learn, push beyond their limits, and achieve their goals, ultimately shaping their success in whatever path they choose.”

Engaged in the Movement

Guided by purpose and a passion for service, she is actively involved in the broader industry through Cornerstone committees and young professional programs, and continues to strengthen teams, uplift peers, and help shape the future of credit unions.

Her advice to other emerging leaders is simple and grounded in consistent growth: “Never stop trying to learn and always remember you're leading in everything you do.”

Congratulations to Marlee Haig on being named Cornerstone’s Young Professional of the Year!
