Credit union advocates from across the state gathered in Jefferson City for the 2026 Missouri Day at the Capitol, demonstrating unified grassroots engagement in support of the credit union mission.
Throughout the day, members participated in well over 100 meetings with legislators, sharing how many constituents in each district rely on credit unions and advocating for the industry’s legislative priorities. Conversations focused on proposals that would strengthen legal protections for credit unions and modernize operational frameworks to better serve members.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Riverways Federal Credit Union President and CEO Scott Shults as the 2026 recipient of the Ian Dunlap Advocacy Award. Shults was honored for his extensive advocacy efforts, including multiple trips to Washington, D.C., and sustained engagement across Missouri to help protect credit unions’ tax status. During his remarks, he encouraged fellow advocates to remain committed to defending and advancing the credit union mission.
Advocates also had the opportunity to witness the legislative process firsthand as the House Financial Institutions Committee heard two key credit union bills during the visit. The moment underscored the direct impact of grassroots engagement and the importance of continued visibility at the Capitol.
“The energy and engagement we saw in Jefferson City demonstrate what makes credit unions so powerful—local voices united around a shared purpose,” said Raymond Bozarth, executive director, MOCUA. “These conversations with policymakers are essential to ensuring credit unions can continue serving Missouri communities for generations to come.”
Missouri Credit Union Association staff will continue building on the energy generated during Day at the Capitol, leveraging member engagement to help move priority legislation forward in the weeks ahead.
