Young Professional of the Year Awarded at the YP Conference in OKC
Wednesday, August 2, 2017 6:55 AM

Melissa Burleson

The Young Professionals Conference this year was held in Oklahoma City on July 31 and August 1. During the conference, the Young Professional of the Year award was given to Melissa Burleson, Business Development Coordinator at Tarrant County’s Credit Union.

Melissa served as a Cornerstone Young Professional Advisor for two years and continues to serve the Young Professionals program as an alumni and representative. She began her career in the credit union industry eleven years ago but has always been willing to grow both personally and professionally.

In 2015, Melissa personally continued pursuing her passion for credit unions through the Credit Union Development Educators program.  That same year she began her current position as the business development coordinator, where she has re-engaged county employees, has been successful in reconnecting with their members and deepening the credit union’s relationships. Teaching countless hours of financial education to the local food banks and non-profits, her passion for the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” always shines through.

One of Melissa’s greatest accomplishments has been her CUDE project that focuses on one credit union development issue at a time. She still dedicates time each month partnering with a community organization in need while engaging her credit union’s staff and the DE’s in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in volunteering. She uses this time and information to provide both the Cornerstone Foundation and the National CU Foundation with information of the statistical impact on those that were served. This project is ongoing and she is currently still serving many organizations in her community.

Melissa has incredible leadership skills that have stretched beyond her credit union. She is always willing to take on new projects and her enthusiasm to spread the credit union difference is infectious. She inspires others, and if you have met her, both her personality and laugh are contagious. As stated, Melissa is extremely deserving of the Cornerstone Credit Union League Professional of the Year award.
