This Week in Washington

This week, both the House and Senate are in session. Starting Wednesday, House Democrats will hold their winter retreat.

The House is expected to consider the “Mortgage Choice Act of 2017” (H.R. 1153) and the “Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2017” (H.R. 772).

The House and the Senate will consider a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through March 2 or 22. Current federal government funding ends Thursday at midnight.

In addition, Congress must pass legislation to raise the debt ceiling in the first half of March. 

Today in the committees:

  • The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing: "Virtual Currencies: The Oversight Role of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission." 
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing: "Beneficial Ownership: Fighting Illicit International Financial Networks Through Transparency." 
  • The House Committee on Financial Services will hold a hearing: “The Annual Report of the Financial Stability Oversight Council.”
