On Oct. 19, credit unions in Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris counties gathered to celebrate International Credit Union Day. The annual Elected Officials and Candidates Meet and Greet was hosted by AMOCO Federal Credit Union, ACU of Texas, JSC Federal Credit Union, and University Federal Credit Union.

Lawmakers attending the event, which was held at La Brisa’s Mexican Restaurant in League City, include Congressman Pete Olson, District 22; State Rep. Wayne Faircloth, District 23; State Rep. Ed Thompson, District 29; State Sen. Larry Taylor, District 11; Congressman Randy Weber, District 14; and State Rep. Dr. Greg Bonnen, District 24.

Local credit union staff, volunteers, and members were able to meet their elected U.S., state, and city officials while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.

This year’s ICU Day theme, “Dreams Thrive Here,” captures the philosophy of credit unions and their goal to help members achieve their biggest dreams in life. Credit unions are ideally suited for their role as financial partners, based on our not-for-profit structure and people-first principles.

“Maintaining prominent visibility and presence in the community is important for credit unions, and this event was a terrific opportunity to join elected officials, candidates, credit unions, and community members in shared advocacy,” said Cornerstone Credit Union League VP Political Affairs Gretchen Ziegler. “It’s also an excellent way to promote the credit union difference, allowing lawmakers and candidates to experience their constituents and their financial partners as a united group of voters.”
