Frustrated by "unnecessarily greedy" fees charged by some banks, many consumers are looking for an alternative. And columnists like Elisabeth Leamy are helping to steer consumers to credit unions. In a June 10 column, Leamy highlights the fact that credit union membership has grown by two million people and credit union deposits topped $1 trillion for the first time ever last year.

She goes on to explain what credit unions are; the benefits of credit union membership, and how to join. Leamy also encourages ABC News readers “to consider at least adding a credit union to their financial strategy.”
