Brett Wooden, senior vice president of marketing and innovation at Houston-based Cy-Fair FCU is one of 15 credit union executives to join Filene Research Institute’s i3 innovation program, which fosters the development of new ideas and innovations for credit unions. Each new i3 member serves a two-year term that kicks off at Filene’s big.bright.minds event this October at Princeton University.
Wooden says he is looking forward the opportunity to serve the movement in this capacity.
“This group is full of innovative thinkers with positive energy and a lot of great ideas to share,” says Wooden. “They aren’t people who view their job as a nine-to-five gig. They are forward-thinking individuals who look for ways to grow our movement and change members’ lives.”
Wooden, who has been with Cy-Fair FCU for about two months, authored a research paper for Filene that was published early this year titled, “Apps Development in the CU Space.” He is also a presenter at the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Oct. 21-22 GSD Young Professionals Conference in Austin. His educational breakout session, “There's an App for That…” examines how credit unions can engage members through tablet and smartphone applications.
Ideas developed in the i3 program since its inception in 2003 have gone on to change state laws, improve the financial lives of millions of consumers, save countless millions of dollars for credit unions and drive new members to the credit union system. Blockbuster ideas tested through Filene’s innovation lab include Prize-linked Savings, Debt in Focus/SavvyMoney, SaveUp, Savings Revolution and minTuition.
Historically, Filene accepts less than 20 percent of the applicants into the program. i3 members commit to ideating, testing and reporting on four innovation ideas, piloting two ideas in their credit unions, attending two national meetings per year, and participating in regular group work.
