On July 23, credit unions responded to "Don't Tax Tuesday," an on-line advocacy campaign for "Don't Tax My Credit Union." It was a huge success with over a million in reach on Twitter and Facebook combined, and with almost 2,200 tweets using the #DontTaxMyCU hashtag.
Now it's time for Round Two of "Don't Tax Tuesday. As Congress comes back into session, both the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees will be working on putting together a comprehensive tax reform bill. While it's not known what will be included in the bill, #DontTaxTuesday gives credit unions, members, and advocates the opportunity to tell their respective Members of Congress #DontTaxMyCU.
The easiest way to engage your legislators on #DontTaxTuesday is to visit www.DontTaxMyCreditUnion.org where, after entering your name and contact information, you will be able to send a pre-drafted tweet or Facebook post directly to your Representative and Senators.
Also, credit unions and individuals can participate by tweeting to their respective Senators and Congressmen using the #DontTaxMyCU hashtag. Similar messages can be posted on Facebook.
More than 800,000 messages have been sent to Capitol Hill, since the "Don't Tax My CU" campaign began in late May.
