Account Titling

Account ownership or account titling, determines several things. They include who controls the account, responsibility for taxes on interest earned, whether the funds are subject to estate tax, who can have the funds after an owner's death, and account insurance.

This presentation will describe forms of ownership and documentation required for each kind of account. Specific topics include:

  • Joint Accounts
  • Payable-on-Death
  • Trust Accounts
  • Uniform Gift To Minors/Uniform Transfer To Minors Act
  • Power of Attorneys
  • Adding and Removing Signors
  • Critical Steps In Proper Titling Account

Procedurally, organizations differ on how they handle these matters. Although much is done the same, procedures are not identical from one organization to another. Why? It is because interpretation of the law varies.

Presenter - John Baptista, Jr.
