House Passes Bipartisan JOBS and Investor Confidence Act

In a near unanimous vote of 406–4, the House passed the bipartisan “JOBS and Investor Confidence Act of 2018” yesterday. The bill, which comprises 32 individual pieces of legislation that have passed the Financial Services Committee or the House this Congress with broad bipartisan support, was the third and largest installment of “Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act” legislation aimed at helping small businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors by reforming our capital markets.

$736M Share Insurance Distribution Payments to Occur Week of July 23

In a joint letter sent Monday to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Credit Union National Association urged adoption of Rep. Patrick McHenry's (R-N.C.) amendment to the Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill, which would prohibit the U.S. Postal Service from providing banking services.   

Momentum Slows in Consumer Housing Confidence

The Fannie Mae Home Purchase Sentiment Index fell 1.6 points in June to 90.7 after reaching new survey highs in April and May. The decline can be attributed to decreases in four of the six HPSI components.

Credit union organizations can now apply for a Bite of Reality App Grant from the National Credit Union Foundation through Aug. 31, 2018. The Foundation is looking to distribute up to $50,000 in grant funds to credit union organizations as part of this effort.

CUNA Mutual AdvantEdge Analytics announced today it has launched its new data platform for the credit union industry, which leverages Microsoft’s technology. This collaboration between Microsoft and AdvantEdge Analytics, announced in March, debuts one of the first industry-specific Common Data Model extensions designed for credit unions. The announcement is in conjunction with Microsoft Inspire 2018.

Texas CU Commission Approves Recommendations at July 13 Meeting

During its meeting of July 13, the Texas Credit Union Commission welcomed new member Elizabeth “Liz” Bayless who was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott for a term set to expire on Feb. 15, 2019. She was the executive vice president of the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation and has extensive experience in the financial industry.
