Thursday, Oct. 30, 2013 (FARMERS BRANCH, Texas) – In considering that one of the purposes of credit unions is to serve the underserved, Robert Lawler, vice president with Dallas/Fort Worth-based TCC CU, says it’s only logical that the credit union would focus on the Hispanic Catholic market – one of the most underserved segments of our society. For its efforts, the Cornerstone Credit Union League has awarded TCC CU its “Juntos Avanzamos” – or Together we Advance – designation.
The Juntos Avanzamos designation is awarded by Cornerstone to credit unions that have successfully completed a rigorous application process that confirms they have the infrastructure, as well as the capacity, commitment, and compassion to serve the financial needs of Hispanic families.
TCC CU has worked diligently to ensure it is offering relevant products and services to meet the financial needs of this important demographic. Among other things, the credit union accepts the Matricula Consular and offers loans to help members pay for immigration costs associated with obtaining legal residency, credit builder lines of credit loans, and Quinceañera loans.
In addition to offering the appropriate products and services, Lawler says TCC CU recognizes the importance of having Spanish-speaking staff available at all times so members have the opportunity to conduct financial transactions in their native language.
“In order to obtain financial success, it’s important that the Hispanic community participate fully in the American banking system,” notes Lawler. “We believe having the Juntos Avanzamos flag flying outside of our Dallas and Fort Worth branches will be a visible sign to the Hispanic community that we have the experience, knowledge, and desire to serve their financial needs.”
Cornerstone officials will present TCC CU with a Juntos Avanzamos flag at 10 a.m. on Nov. 18 at the credit union’s Fort Worth branch, located at 4312 Town Center Drive.
