Sessions & Speakers

Understand The Cybersecurity Tools You Need and Learn to Leverage the Tools You Already Have

IT and cybersecurity can't be allowed to exist in a silo at your credit union because these essential functions are embedded in all aspects of operations. Like it or not, cybersecurity isn't getting easier or less technical in the foreseeable future. In this session, you'll learn how you can navigate through a complex cyber world, leverage compliance, and adopt best-practice standards to increase the safety of your members’ data. This session is intended to provide you with a basic understanding of what examiners are looking for when they review IT operations.

About Idrees Rafiq
Idrees RafiqIdrees Rafiq, Jr. is IT consulting vice president with Financial and Technology Resources, Credit Union Resources. He specializes in leveraging IT and security-related issues with compliance, marketing, vendor management, business continuity, and other business operations specific to credit unions ranging from $2 million to more than $2.5 billion in assets. He's a faculty member at Southwest CUNA Management School and serves on the executive leadership board of the National Credit Union Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (NCU-ISAO). He earned his MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University and a BAAS and a Bachelor of Business Management from Howard Payne University. Rafiq was named 2017 Rock Star by CU Magazine and awarded Cornerstone’s 2017 Manager of the Year.

Top Compliance Things to Know Before Your Next Exam

Do you feel confident that you are up-to-date with all the regulatory and compliance requirements, as well as the new issues coming down the pike? If not, don’t feel alone. With the rapid onslaught of regulatory and compliance changes, it’s a constant struggle to stay current. By attending this session, you’ll learn how to focus on the issues that are important for a noncomplex credit union.

This session will cover updates from:

  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau;
  • Credit union-related litigation;
  • Federal Reserve;
  • Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN)/Office of Foreign Assets Control (Bank Secrecy Act);
  • Military Lending Act;
  • National Credit Union Administration; and
  • State law changes from the last legislative session.
