This award recognizes model credit union efforts to strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of non-members through community outreach programs other than personal finance education. Examples of these outreach programs could include: internship programs, fund raising, support for public events, donation to social service programs, VITA or EITC assistance, lobbying or advocacy on behalf of K-12 financial education, and support for teacher training.
Credit unions could receive an award for involvement in almost any kind of activity that helps other people or strengthens the structure of a community. Sample Dora Maxwell Award activities include, but are not limited to:
The purpose of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is to promote social responsibility among credit unions by formally recognizing their social achievements.
