Communicate your priority issues with lawmakers during August recess

Posted: Aug 22, 2019 | Author:

We've passed the midway point of the congressional recess, but there's still plenty of time to reach out to your legislators in their home districts. The recess continues for the House and Senate through Sept. 6.

Be prepared to engage with talking points and questions regarding your credit union's priority issues to drive your conversations.

"Being prepared for meetings with talking points and well-reasoned questions regarding your credit union's priority issues is essential to successful engagement and relationship building with lawmakers," said Cornerstone Chief Government Relations Officer Jim Phelps. "An informed and open style of conversation enables lawmakers to better understand your concerns, as well as the unintended consequences that laws and regulations can have on credit union operations and their member constituents."

And don't forget the value to your lawmaker of your latest Project Zip Code numbers to prove the broad influence and reach of your credit union among their constituents.

If you need help on how to arrange a meeting with your lawmaker, email Cornerstone Political and Grassroots Director April Krause at akrause@cornerstoneleague.coop or call 800-442-5762, ext. 6487.
