Annual InTouch CU food drive creates record number of meals

More than 25,000 meals created through support of credit union members, communities in three states

The numbers are in, and the results are the highest they have ever been: InTouch Credit Union (ITCU) in Plano, Texas, along with the support of employees, members, volunteers, and its communities, collected the equivalent of more than 25,000 meals during the credit union's fifth annual food drive. In total, ITCU collected more than 90,000 meal equivalents over the past five years.

Throughout the month of June, ITCU coordinated donation collections at its locations in Texas, Nevada, and Michigan, while employees volunteered their support at local food banks on the weekends. With a theme of "Help Your Neighbor, Help Yourself," ITCU added a matched contribution based on new accounts opened during the collection period. For every new checking account opened in the month of June, ITCU donated S1. By the end of the month, this matching contribution resulted in the creation of nearly 1,400 additional meals.

ITCU partnered with the following food banks and organization for this year's food drive:

  • North Texas Food Bank™ (Texas)
  • Rochester Area Neighborhood House (Michigan)
  • Three Square™ (Nevada)

"One year after our previous record-setting food drive, our dedicated team of volunteers, community leaders, members, and local organizations rose to the challenge and collected more meal equivalents than we have ever done in one drive," said ITCU Executive Vice President Diane Gerstner. "We are proud to have provided more than 25,000 meals to those communities in which we operate, and we are thrilled to have been able to reach this milestone through the assistance and these partnerships. This drive was successful through the combined efforts of hundreds of individuals, and we cannot thank them enough for their help."
