South Texas credit union leaders launch Sister Society

The newly formed South Texas Sister Society met for the first time on Tuesday at a kick-off event at MemberSource Credit Union in Houston.

Sister Societies, local Global Women Leadership Network chapters (part of the World Council of Credit Unions), further the network’s global mission of making a local impact. Members of the society discuss issues, exchange ideas, network with neighboring credit union leaders, and share lessons learned. Sister Societies also provide an opportunity to talk through important issues impacting women leaders in credit unions.

Close to forty credit union professionals attended the kick off of the South Texas Sister Society.

"It seems that we have a good group that wants to make a difference in the lives of women within the credit union industry and the community," said Kenny Harrington, president and CEO of MemberSource Credit Union where the event was held.”

“I enjoyed the event and appreciate a male CEO, Kenny Harrington at MemberSource CU, hosting and taking the initiative to launch the South Texas Sister Society,” said Sherri Ann Chack-On, AVP Member Services, Training, and IRA administrator at Houston Federal Credit Union. “Kenny was engaging and able to recruit four leaders for the group. I am excited for future meetings, to participate in making a difference in our lives and the communities we serve.”

Debra M. Weir, executive vice president/executive at InvesTex Credit Union, also attended the meeting. “It was encouraging to see so many like-minded individuals coming together to create an organization to do our part—however large or small it may be—in making this world a better place. I’m excited to be a part of this inaugural group and look forward to future meetings as we start this new adventure together.”
