Foundation ready to help CU staff and volunteers in times of crisis

Posted: Jul 18, 2019 | Author: Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation

The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation is available to help credit union staff and volunteers when disasters hit, including severe storms and hurricanes. Disasters are identified as fire, wind, hail, or flood damages to an individual’s home or vehicle.

Working together with the National Credit Union Foundation, CUNA, other leagues, and affected credit unions, funds are distributed directly to credit union staff and volunteers in need, so they can stabilize their lives and continue to serve their members.

“In times of crisis, the Foundation is here to help our credit union volunteers and employees get back on their feet," said Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran. “We are able to respond because of credit unions' generosity and commitment to ‘people helping people.’”

The Process
The Foundation has established a two-phase process when disasters occur:

  • Phase one: Emergency grants are available to credit union employees and volunteers to assist with immediate disaster relief needs, such as out-of-pocket costs that may result from being evacuated, insurance deductibles, and initial property repairs.
  • Phase two: Disaster relief grants are intended to assist credit union employees and volunteers with additional significant needs. This is implemented after the distribution of Phase one grants. This phase begins 90 days after the respective disaster and is dependent on the funds available.
