Resource One CU wins honoree award

Resource One wins honoree award for ongoing partnership with Eastfield College and the community.

Resource One Credit Union in Dallas was nominated by Eastfield College staff for the Eastfield College 2019 Corporate Partnership Engagement Award. This award recognizes outstanding corporate entities who support and help advance the mission of Eastfield College to provide excellence in teaching and learning through partnership.

Resource One CU won an honoree award for its ongoing commitment to offer financial education, in the form of reality fairs, to the students of Eastfield College and the surrounding Dallas County High Schools in Mesquite, Texas.

During the reality fair, students are required to make financial decisions by budgeting and spending on their terms in a simulated real-world setting. Through creating personal budgets and allocating dollars for food, clothing, housing, utilities, transportation, and more students can begin to shape intelligent thought processes and develop a sound appreciation for money.

“Community partnerships come in all shapes and sizes, but when each partner can come together and do what they do best … we all benefit from the relationship,” said Phillip Crocker, director of Cultural Enhancement Training & Development at Resource One Credit Union. “This all started with one member reaching out to her credit union and asking—can you come help me teach a class of college students about how to better manage their personal finances? To date, the Eastfield College Reality Fair has had over 3,000 students in attendance.”
