Border FCU awards $19,000 in scholarships to local students

Border FCU scholarshipsBorder Federal Credit Union in Del Rio, Texas, awarded more than $19,000 in scholarships to 56 high school and college students in its field of membership, bringing the 2019 total scholarships awarded to $23,900.

With the support of its community and staff, BFCU hosts several community events throughout the year to raise funds for deserving students. The majority of funds were raised at the credit union’s annual golf tournament held in March. This event includes team play, individual challenges, and a ‘Helicopter Ball Drop” for $1,000. Other events included a movie/celebrity-themed bowling tournament and fundraiser sale hosted by BFCU’s 35 and under young professional group, The PULSE.

The scholarship recipients were chosen based on their academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. The selection was made by a scholarship committee, made up of volunteers.

Scholarship recipients include high school graduates from Del Rio High School, CC Winn High School, Eagle Pass High School, Comstock High School, and Carrizo Springs High School. College student scholarships were awarded to students from University of Texas, University of Texas – San Antonio, Angelo State University, Texas Tech University, St. Edwards University, University of Incarnate Word, Texas A&M University, Our Lady of Lakes University, Sul Ross State University, and Southwest Texas Junior College.
