Shell Federal Credit Union in Deer Park, Texas, awards the John Garrison Scholarship to graduating high school seniors each year. Recipients are selected based on academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and responses to the application essay. This year’s essay asked applicants to explain how a credit union can accommodate obstacles during their first year of college, especially financially.

More than 120 applications were received from 57 high schools throughout Harris County. Ten deserving high school seniors were selected to receive the 2019 John Garrison Scholarship. These students were recognized at Shell FCU’s 82nd Annual Membership Meeting and will be awarded $2,500 each to use at the college, university, or vocational technical school of their choice.
