UFCU names new SVP – community impact

University Federal Credit Union, Austin's largest locally owned financial institution, announced Heather McKissick as senior vice president of community impact. In this newly created role, she will lead credit union strategic relationship development, community engagement, social purpose, advocacy, and marketing. She will focus on strengthening the UFCU brand and establishing collaborative opportunities for positive community impact.

“I can think of no one better suited than Heather to lead UFCU’s mission as a member-focused, community-centric financial institution,” said UFCU President Tony Budet. “Her personal and professional commitment to community service spans her career, and her vision and experience will be an asset to the credit union’s members as she leads community engagement within Central Texas and Galveston County.”

When McKissick joined UFCU in 2013 as vice president of human resources and organizational development, she already was an experienced advocate and community leader after serving for seven years as a volunteer and then five years as chief executive officer of Leadership Austin. Since February 2017, McKissick has served as UFCU’s vice president of community impact and business development.

She is a member of the board of directors for the American Heart and Stroke Association of Central Texas; the Young Women’s Alliance community advisory board; and chair of the advisory council for the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce (and their 2013 “Changemaker of the Year”). She served as chair of the Heart Association’s 2017 “Go Red for Women” campaign; as honorary co-chair with Austin Mayor Steve Adler of the 2016 “Austin Under 40” awards; was the inaugural “Austin Under 40 Mentor of the Year” honoree; a “Women of Distinction” honoree in 2014 by the Girl Scouts of Central Texas; and was named a Profile in Power – Central Texas Women of Influence by the Austin Business Journal in 2010. She also holds a credit union development education certification through the National Credit Union Foundation.
