Resource One Leadership Team Helps Bring Stability to the Homeless Children of Dallas

As part of an ongoing initiative to build leaders from within the organization, the Resource One Credit Union Leadership Program was given the initiative to help a local organization. The group selected to assist Vogel Alcove with their Bye-Bye Bag program.

Vogel Alcove helps homeless children by becoming their safe haven during that day, providing them stability, nutrition, wellness checkups, and therapy. Vogel Alcove serves as many as 200 children each day, allowing them to learn, grow, and thrive in a place free from hunger or trauma. While children are in the care of Vogel, the parents, most of whom are single mothers, have the opportunity to work, look for work, or go to school. They give homeless families a chance to overcome their circumstances and break the cycle of homelessness.

Breakfast and lunch are provided for the children during their stay at Vogel Alcove, but dinner is an uncertainty for most of the kids. Vogel cannot provide food from the kitchen to send home with the kids. A great way they can get around this and ensure the kids have food to eat that night is if a business donates a “Bye-Bye Bag” which contains a nutritionally balanced dinner for the children that night. That is why the Bye-Bye Bag donation is the R1CU Leadership Team’s main focus.

Resource One DonationsThe R1CU Leadership Team collected enough donations from fellow R1CU employees to reach their goal of making 750 Bye-Bye Bags. With the donation, the team ensured that all of the students enrolled at Vogel had dinner for one week.

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to represent Resource One in the Leadership group,” says Lisa Anderson, Branch Manager at Resource One Credit Union. "When you can help and give back through community service, it improves the lives of others around you, and you will discover that it will bring meaning in your own life, as well."

The 2018 Leadership Team includes Assistant Branch Manager Prescilla Corral; Underwriter Steve Johnson; Assistant Branch Manager LeAnne Edwards; Marketing Event Coordinator Dustie Donihoo; Branch Manager Lisa Anderson; and Remote Loan Funder Ryann Martinez.
