DOL issues guidance on paid leave, effective April 1

by Cornerstone Credit Union League | Mar 26, 2020

The U.S. Department of Labor has issued the model paid leave notice that employers with fewer than 500 employees must be provide to current employees. The new paid leave acts become effective April 1, but the notice should be posted as soon as possible

Normally, employers post required notices in a conspicuous place—often the breakroom. This will work for employers where no one is teleworking; however, due to the pandemic, many employers are permitting employees to work remotely. As a result, the notice should be sent to employees via email, direct mail, or on the internal intranet site.

This notice is required to be posted only in English, but the DOL will be providing translations soon.

Note, the DOL is continuing to work on several more rounds of guidance, so watch for that information coming soon.

If you have questions on the new paid leave requirements, please contact Suzanne Yashewski, Cornerstone’s regulatory and compliance counsel, at 512-853-8516.

Employers may feed questions directly to DOL online.
